While we do appreciate a full wiring diagram, it isn’t necessary - in most cases a brief “I have to wire x amount of switches to y amount of readers and it should work as follows:” is more than enough.
Triggering the relay with two switches
Switches connected in series
This configuration is typically used in secure areas where exit will only be granted if both switches are closed.
If S1 is closed but S2 remains open (or vice versa) the circuit hasn’t been completed and the relay will not be triggered. Once both S1 and S2 are closed, the relay will be triggered.
Wiring is simple: a wire from one of the pushbutton terminals is connected to an input on S1. This wire then runs from the output of S1 to the input of S2 and finally, from the output of S2 to the remaining pushbutton terminal on the IntelliRelay board.
The switches are connected in series.
Switches connected in parallel
This configuration is generally used where each individual switch, albeit at different locations, should be able to trigger the relay.
If either S1 or S2 (or both, for that matter) are closed, the circuit will be completed and the relay will be triggered.
A wire from one of the pushbutton terminal is connected to the input on S1. A second wire is then connected to the same pushbutton terminal and connected to the input on S2.
The output of S1 is connected to the remaining pushbutton terminal and likewise for S2 – its output is connected to the remaining pushbutton terminal.
Alternative: The input for S2 could also be wired to the input of S1 and the output for S2 to the output of S1 if the technician so chooses. This would mostly depend on the physical locations of and distances between S1 and S2.
